The Rutherford family and the City of Phoenix experienced a tragic loss today March 21, 2019. Police Officer Paul Rutherford was struck and killed by a vehicle near the intersection of 75th Avenue and Indian School Road at 8:30 am. Officer Rutherford had been serving the City of Phoenix community for nearly 23 years.

He was handling a call for service across the street from the scene of an earlier accident he had responded to when he was struck. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries a short time later.

Officer Rutherford is survived by his wife and two children.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and the fellow members of the Phoenix Police Department.
